Expect some surprises.

It is a good idea to prepare for the fact that a project may have unknown challenges and that this is normal. For example:

• You may not know about some problems until you dig for new foundations, trench for a new sewer line or open up walls or ceilings.
• Municipal changes are sometimes ordered by building officials, and are legal. If a building official visits the home during a routine inspection for your project, and discovers an unrelated issue to the job at hand, they may require you to bring that issue into compliance prior to allowing the current job to continue or finish. It doesn’t happen often…but it does happen. The building officials are there for compliance to current code as well as your family's safety.
