Simple rules to keep in mind during design, before construction

• Don’t over build for yourself.
  Too much room could be as ineffective as too little—and expensive to boot.
  Visit efficiency solutions before space solutions.
• Don’t overbuild for the house.
  If you have to move, you want the house to be marketable.
• Don’t overbuild for the neighborhood.
  Being the highest-priced home in a development where all the homes are custom is different than being the highest-priced home in an established neighborhood, where most of the homes are relative in size, scale or finish.
