Location, location, location? How about storage, storage, storage.
Any family these days with kids suffers the same dilemma, given any size of house they live in. Either the car is parked outside and the toys, tricycles, bikes, camping gear, mower, trimmer and trampoline are utilizing precious little garage space, or vice versa.

Most of the time the back patio space is being over utilized for this overflow of family stuff, and as often the case, is right in the sightline out most of the windows (and best views) of the home.
With a little help from a very understanding HOA, we were able to produce an extension to the garage and the interior Laundry Room as well!
